Holy Week Cantata Slated Wednesday

First Methodist Choir Will Present Program

Lester McCoy, associate conductor of the University Musical Society, will direct the first performance here tomorrow night of a newly published edition of Pergolesi’s ‘‘Stabat Mater.” It will be sung by the 60-voice senior choir of the First Methodist Church.

Prof. Philip Duey, director of the Men’s Glee Club of the University, wilt be the guest soloist for the sacred concert, which begin at 7:30 in the sanctuary of the Methodist Church.

Originally the Holy Week cantata was written for two solo voices, but a new edition of the work for a mixed choir and four soloists was published four months ago.

Three of the soloists taking part are principal singers in the church choir, Margaret Edmonds, soprano; Marjorie Gould, contralto; and Charles Taylor, tenor. Prof. Duey will sing the baritone solo.

Assisting instrumentalists for the concert will be Genevieve Shanklin and Elsie Kalionen, violins, Theodore Powell, viola and Harriet Risk, cello. Mary McCall Stubbins will be at the organ.

Cantata Soloist
